DeepFreeze | What's your long term experience with Yoga? I know in the pursuit of good health, feeling well, strength and endurance, it takes time. I've been spending a few years doing some resistance training and cardio. I'm thinking of dropping that or just doing it 25% of the time (just to throw a number in there) and doing Yoga most of the time. I have no doubt that Yoga is GREAT GREAT GREAT for a person. I did my first full session last night. Wow! So, another very silly question but I'm curious. I know women who do yoga look hot. Well they do to me. LOL If a man only does Yoga what is his body type like? I don't trust the internet because they'll take some roided up guy and say he got that way doing yoga. |
Twirl | I don't know. You can get pretty muscular with it though. Especially the more intense ones, like Ashtanga. One of my male teacher was rather muscular, but they seem all lean... So not a bulgy like from the gymn. More normal... |
NoRainNoRainbows | i think that doing 75% cardio 25% yoga is a great idea as the body needs both. I tried yoga a few times but favored Pilates where i went, as liked it better, and they were at the same time...but i can tell you guys who do yoga do probably have well built muscles but what is more evident in them is the 'calm' energy, they are also more flexible than what they look. so don't worry whichever way you go, your body will thank you for it in many ways in a few months |
Randall | Both! |
Marginal | What does resistance training and cardio have to do with Yoga anyway? Physical Yoga contains mainly stretches and postures. Spiritual Yoga is the one we aim to reach the summit of. The physical part is meant to only condition and maintain the body in order to let the energy flow through. As of the hot looks, yes, you might have them depending on the type of Yoga you choose. Unfortunately (or should I say luckily), once you attain the specific level you are talking about, you'll find out how futile it is, and will look forward to develop in higher levels of consciousness. Good luck :-). |

Health. Thank you everyone! I've been doing a kind of Yoga that does repetitions and then hold the pose. Dolphin up and down, up and down and eventually hold. Warrior 3 up and down, up and down, eventually hold, Etc. I really enjoy it.

NoRainNoRainbows | ^ lol sounds a lot like pilates, but no surprises as the guy who made it did take a bit from it, and adjusted it, with two months at most you will be one really happy person with the results btw i did u that calendar reading i told u about a while ago, don't know if u saw it |
Stawr | Definetly yoga now, since we are in a pandemic. Plus my gym went out of business and that gym was bought by another gym and then that gym was bought by a weed shop |

Stawr | I have to figure out how to get all my money back. My first gym transferred me to a new gym with out my consent, and I have not been going at all. Or maybe the weed shop can reimburse me with edibles. Haha I would love to take ballroom dance lessons before my wedding, but it's totally banned here right now. |
Pathseeker | Hello DeepFreeze, If you have not already, check out "Hatha Yoga" by Shyam Sundar Goswami. He may have been the first to introduce a calisthenic component to yoga, performing the assanas in a similar way that you practice. I consider him a traditional maverick. And he produced students with abilities. If I remember correctly, he even includes training programs. The book is a keeper. The late father of Baron Baptiste, both yoga practitioners, also lifted weights. Resistance training is not a new thing to India's culture. In the early to mid 20th century, weightlifting and muscle control had its share adherents globally and there were some in India as well. Randall suggested that you do both. I see nothing wrong with that. I suggest that you define what your goals are in your training. Given your handle, are you stuck in a plateau? (Smiling) Pathseeker |
Stawr | Today is solar plexus yoga day for me. I am so pooped right now. I have a few things I need to do with the rest of my day. My lazy break is over I gave myself an hour. |
Randall | Bump! |
Stawr | I think yoga is great for the passive aggressors. You can get all of your passive aggressive sighs out of your system and go about the rest of your day. That was me yesterday. |
Stawr | Getting back into my fitness routines has been sort of iffy as of late. Well I pushed my self to do yoga, though I really wasn't feeling it. I came across a yoga video called Restorative Yoga. It was super relaxing. Lots of props though. Great yoga, when you are not in the mood to do yoga. |
